Every movie fan has a list of movies somewhere that they need to watch, whether it’s kept on their phone, scribbled on a piece of paper or simply stored in their memory. As a bit of a nerd for organisation, I’ve been loving using Letterboxd for the past couple of years as an information source and a diary of what I’ve seen. It also has a Watchlist feature which I’ve been adding to for a long time now!
It’s gotten to the point now where there are so many movies in this list, that when I have the free time to watch something, I can’t decide between them, and so some of them have been on this list for over 2 years!
Some of them are classics I’ve been meaning to see for too long, some are movies I know will be terrible but I like the cast, and many are ones that have grabbed my interest from reviews I’ve read by other bloggers. There are also some that haven’t been released yet in the UK, but I don’t want to forget about them.
So to resolve my issue of an ever-growing list, I’ve vowed to watch all these movies by the end of the year. Of course, my list will have more added to it, but I’ll watch the current list in full by New Year’s! In fact, I think I’ll turn this post into a blog page and hyperlink my posts as I complete them!
Here’s the list in full…
Short Term 12 (2013)
Rushmore (1998)
The Neon Demon (2016)
Maggie’s Plan (2015)

If you’re still reading at this point – what do you recommend I should see first?
I’d get rid of The Butterfly Effect. That movie sucked ass and Ashton Kutcher can’t act for shit. The Neon Demon is a film that I love but it’s fucking out there. I, Daniel Blake I think is a great film and certainly a must-see although it is emotionally heavy and has a lot of political and social overtones which is often expected from Ken Loach.
If you want something to laugh at…. I’d go with This is Spinal Tap. This film goes up to 11.

Thanks for the advice! I’ve heard about how funny This is Spinal Tap is, I definitely need to see that one sooner rather than later.

So many good movies it’s hard to say where you should start. Might be easiest, i.e. least stressful, just to start at the top and work your way down. With Short Term 12 I know you’ll be starting with an excellent choice.

That’s what I’m thinking Dell! Plus the ones at the bottom are the ones that have been on the list the longest, so I feel like it’s only fair to the movies if I do it that way.

Most of the stuff is also on my to watch list. The only tipp I can give you: I hated the Neon Demon (https://wp.me/p2DYTl-Ic), so you can skip that 😉

At least I’m not alone! I think Neon Demon ended up on the list because everyone seemed to either love it or hate it, and I wanted to see what camp I would fall into!

The Drop! Hardy is dreamy in that

Ahhh now that’ll be why that movie’s on my list in the first place! 😀

I love a lot of these! Short Term 12, The Salesman, and The Butterfly Effect (minus the last 5 minutes) are my favorites.

Tons of good stuff on here, so you’ve definitely got a lot to look forward to. My personal favorite listed is probably The Neon Demon, though it’s also one of the hardest to recommend, because it’s definitely NOT for everyone, lol.
I’d say the two most pertinent watches to prioritize would be The Matrix (How??) and Detroit, which is undoubtedly the most criminally underrated movie from last year. 🙂

I think that’s what landed The Neon Demon onto my list, all the reviews I read were by bloggers who either loved it or hated it completely, there was no middle ground!
I honestly don’t know how I’ve avoided The Matrix for so long…

Awesome picks! I’ve been using Letterboxd’s lists a lot lately too. It’s been easy to mark off what I want to watch and inspire me to try to finish as many as possible. Of course, I keep adding more than I’m finishing though. lol Good luck finishing yours!!

It’s just far too easy to add to the list and before you know it…you end up with a list as long as your arm like me!
